Beside cornsnakes I breed Texan ratsnakes (Pantherophis
obsoletus lindheimeri). In general, Texan rats tend to
have a bit more "attitude" than corns but the general
maintenance is basically the same. My animals are a hypo-form
of the Texans. The genetics behind this form is uncertain.
I acquired these as offspring from hypomelanistic animals
who were imported from the US. If they are indeed hypo
it must be an extreme form of hypomelanism as they, and
their hatchlings, have absolutely no visible traces of
black left with only some pale grey background colour
and their eyes have pigment. Some people consider them
to be T+albinos. Whatever trait it is, they are absolutely
great looking animals with stunning pastel colours which
are hard to describe. Each year I breed a few of them
as well as normal coloured Texans that are heterozygous
for this trait.
