Amelanistic
corns lack melanine wich is responsible for the black
pigmentation. This results in a red coloured corn. They
usually develop some yellow colouration with ageing. Sometimes
they are refered to as red-albinos or missing-blacks,
Amels were the first corn mutation and, at this moment,
the most common cultivar. The Amel gene is widely spread
into other morphs. The Amel morphs I breed are; Amels,
Amel Motleys, Amel Stripes and Sunglows. Sunglows are
genetic Amelanistic corns but selective bred to remove
all white borders resulting in a "no-white" amel. I also
have a group of Amel-bloodreds and these can be found
at the Bloodred / Diffused page.
